I finally checked “attending PaleyFest” off of my Los Angeles bucket list after living here for almost five years. When I first started school at USC in 2014, I heard about PaleyFest and its wonderful lineup of television show panels and have been dying to go ever since. The Paley Center is an institution that holds media events throughout the year. The two big Paley events are the PaleyFests, held in New York in the fall and in Los Angeles in the spring. For two weeks, actors, writers, directors, etc. of popular TV shows sit on panels to discuss their current seasons, general media questions, and questions from the audience.
I am very behind these days on popular shows (mostly because I have very little time for television), so a lot of the panels were for TV shows I had not seen, but I am a huge fan of Stephen Colbert and bought tickets to see his event. The evening was moderated by Pete Holmes, another comedian, and Stephen was of course funny and charming as expected, but also talked about things like his upbringing and what it was like navigating the first six months of hosting the Late Show for the first time.
Although I have not seen most of the other shows on the schedule for the rest of the panels, if tickets did not sell out immediately, I also would have loved to see the Parks and Recreation reunion. Here is a lineup of the panels still to come this next week at PaleyFest. They are all held at the Dolby Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard, where the Oscars are held each year. There is plenty of parking at the Hollywood and Highland shopping center, and places to eat at for dinner before you attend the panels.
Entrance to the Dolby Theatre. For each event they have themed cookies related to the show.It was a packed house for Stephan, seats were filled four levels up!
