Since I follow the wonderful Kristen Bell on Instagram, I saw her post back in February that her equally awesome husband Dax Shepard was starting a podcast. Like most things, I was slow to start listening to it, but once I did I was hooked.
I mostly know Dax Shepard for being Kristen Bell’s husband (an honorable recognition on his part), and for his roles in comedy films, but I did not feel like I knew much about his own personality. This made the podcast even more enjoyable to listen to, as I am so impressed with his ability to converse and switch back and forth between serious topics and funny life moments. Dax describes his podcast as one that cover “the messy business of being human,” and he delivers.
I did not realize how many friends and connections Dax has throughout the entertainment industry, but this is evident in his guest lineup.
Even with high profile guests, he makes all of them feel comfortable enough to share personal experiences. Instead of listening to an interview, I feel like I am eavesdropping on friends talking over dinner, in the best way. In the first episode Dax talks with his wife Kristen and they spend a lot of the podcast bickering and discussing past arguments they had, which from the beginning told me this will be an honest, open, and funny podcast.
This podcast is also so well produced! In the first episode, Kristen discusses Dax starting this podcast nonchalantly (and complains about the unfinished attic in which the podcast takes place) as if this was a last minute idea he decided on. Instead, Dax comes off as a podcast expert (an Armchair podcast expert ;)), and it is obvious the amount of effort that is actually put into every episode. Also, his podcast sidekick Monica Padman is a great addition.
