Atwood, located on the bottom floor of the Alise Chicago hotel, will forever be known as the restaurant with the best cheese plate setup. Not only do they serve an awesome cheese plate with raspberry sauce, fresh fruit, and nuts, but they even added a big chunk of fresh honey that was literally melting onto the wooden board. I also learned what “spoonbread” is, and that is just a fancy word for some extra fancy cornbread. The spoonbread is moist and topped with melted apple butter to give it a sweet flavor.

The Alise hotel offers a mix of historic architecture with quirky touches, while their main restaurant stands out with a refreshingly modern interior design. I especially loved the tall windows that let you watch the people and cars going by in the Chicago Loop. I randomly ate at Atwood when I was just searching for a promising restaurant near Millennium Park and it is a true hidden gem.
