The thought of being up high in a hot air balloon made me a little uneasy, even for someone who is not afraid of heights, but it was on my bucket list and I decided to go for it. Once we got into the basket and started to ascend, I was surprised at how safe and peaceful I found the trip to be. Of course if you are not good with heights then looking over the side of the basket way up in the air would probably be too frightening for you.
The most difficult part of the whole experience was actually getting in and out of the basket, as it is pretty tall, for safety reasons, and this might sound silly but I’m really bad at climbing things (fences, rock walls, etc.), so I was afraid I would humiliate myself. I am happy to report that I did not fall on my face, but the accessibility for this balloon ride is limited so keep that in mind before booking. You also have to wake up extremely early and I know must people are not morning people like I am but waking up before the sun was so worth it.
I really loved the company we used, Napa Valley Balloons, Inc, mostly because they provide brunch after the adventure at the Domaine Chandon’s Etoile restaurant, when your stomach is fully awake and less queasy. The entire team was also very friendly and I learned that they follow you while you are up in the air because the wind could take us to different landing areas depending on the day. Once our pilot decided where we were landing the team below had a bottle of wine ready to knock on the door of the owner of the property and ask them if we can land there!
